If you are struggling to deal with depression, it can get better.
If you suffer from constant anxiety, you are not alone. If you are looking for mental health treatment in Boca, we want to help. May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and in honor of this month, Banyan Mental Health wants to break the stigma surrounding mental illness treatment and make sure people get the help they need.
Mental Health: The Facts
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, almost one in five adults in the United States lives with some form of mental illness, but less than half (about 42.6%) of people receive help from mental health services such as formal treatment, counseling, or prescription medication. [1] While a large percentage of the country’s population struggles from a mental health disorder, most people are not getting the help they need. As a mental health facility, we believe this is a big problem.
Mental health disorders seem to effect young adults the most. In fact, those between the ages of 18 to 25 have the highest prevalence of any mental illness with 25.8%, but they also tend to receive proper mental health services less than their older counterparts. [1] As these young adults are entering into secondary education or the workforce, they are struggling with mental health disorders like depression and anxiety. While college and your early twenties are supposed to be the time of your life, for about a quarter of these people, this is simply not true.
Unfortunately, rather than getting formal bipolar, anxiety, or depression treatment, many people will self-medicate with drugs or alcohol. In 2014, 7.9 million adults in the United States suffered from both a substance use disorder and a mental illness. [2] Rather than getting help, people are unknowingly adding another major problem to their lives. If this is the case for you or your loved one, our co-occurring disorder treatment in Boca may be able to help.
