* Report from Vista Health Group
At Banyan, we recognize the profound impact deployment and combat can have on veterans and their families. The modern realities of combat, including the ongoing war on terror, have increased trauma and emotional strain, contributing to a rising problem of substance abuse and mental health issues among veterans. Many service members suffer from physical injuries and mental health issues, often exacerbated by using addictive narcotic pain medications prescribed for these injuries.
Military & Veterans in Recovery
Our Military & Veterans in Recovery Program is designed to address these unique challenges with a military-centric approach. We offer:
A supportive environment: A safe, structured space away from temptation and toxic influences, helping veterans focus on their recovery.
Specialized therapeutic programming: Our staff is trained to understand and address the specific needs of veterans and their families.
Life skills training and education: Assistance with reintegration into society, including supervised outings, meetings, and speaker events.
Comprehensive mental health support: Addressing symptoms of PTSD and other mental health disorders with proven therapeutic modalities.

Detox and Addictions We Treat
Drug and alcohol abuse are prevalent among veterans and military personnel. Veterans often receive opioids for pain from injuries sustained during service, while alcohol use is common on military bases as a means of socialization and coping.
Veterans are at higher risk for substance use disorders due to the physical and psychological strains of their service. Many use drugs or alcohol to manage the trauma and stress of combat and other experiences. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a common mental health condition in this group, with symptoms that can drive substance use as a coping mechanism.
Our Military and Veterans in Recovery Program offers tailored addiction treatment for:
- Benzodiazepine Addiction
- Cocaine Addiction
- Heroin Addiction
- Methamphetamine Addiction
- Opioid Addiction
- Prescription Drug Addiction

- Psychological Symptoms
For military personnel and veterans, mental health challenges can often be intensified by combat and traumatic experiences. PTSD, once known as "shellshock" or "battle fatigue," is a particularly common condition. The symptoms of PTSD may include:
- Memory Problems: Difficulty recalling events or maintaining focus on tasks.
- Flashbacks: Re-experiencing traumatic events as if they were happening in the present.
- Insomnia or Trouble Sleeping: Difficulty falling or staying asleep, often accompanied by nightmares.
- Low Self-Worth and Hopelessness: Feelings of inadequacy and a pervasive sense of despair.
- Relationship and Marital Issues: Strain on personal relationships due to emotional distance or conflict.
- Aggression and Trouble Concentrating: Increased irritability and difficulty focusing on tasks.
- Self-Destructive Behaviors, Including Substance Abuse: Engaging in risky behaviors or using substances as a coping mechanism.
Our program offers tailored support for these issues, providing specialized treatment that acknowledges and addresses the unique experiences of military and veteran individuals. By integrating evidence-based therapies with compassionate care, we strive to help our clients achieve healing and resilience.
